Design for all types of learning environments

The ingredients of a well-designed course...

Creative course design and development is not just about developing text-based materials, plugging them into a course (instructor-led, or into an LMS) and proclaiming their educational validity. It is about understanding how to integrate the right combination of learning ingredients to optimize the learning outcomes.

Too much flash and special effects puts the emphasis on the media and not enough emphasis on the objectives of the course. Incorporating the appropriate learning theories into course design entices your audience (the student) and transforms their learning into a culinary delight for the mind. The best design result empowers the audience to aptly apply their learning to the world in which they live and work.

What I do is design and develop courses for instructor-led, blended and online environments, including:
  • eLearning
  • Online learning
  • Staff development
  • Vocational courses
  • High School courses

One of the resources that I think quite highly of and tend to use (a lot) is Tom Kuhlmann's eLearning blog:
